      Workshop: THE ESSENCE EXPERIENCE w/ Nubian Néné

      The Essence Experience’s class format is based on engaging all kinds of dancers to find one’s essence. The elements of the dance are activated, giving the student a full range of movement to explore, practice, and find their rhythm rooted in music. Through drills, and solo/group exercises, we seek the connection to self, raise the body/space awareness, and build a character to find freedom and liberation. Honesty, engagement, and self-determination are highly recommended in this high-intensity class. Required: Love of music. Intermediate level. All dance styles are welcome. Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of dance. (Beginners are welcome to join, but classes are not facilitated for beginners level.)

      Panel talk: 40 years of Hip Hop in Norway

      The event is free. The talk will be in Norwegian. Hip Hop in Norway celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. We are part of Norway's Hip Hop history, and we will benefit greatly from understanding whose shoulders we stand on and what has come before us. We have invited some Norwegian O.G.s to provide a historical perspective on Norwegian Hip Hop, primarily through the lens of dancers. This approach will also help us be visionary as we look to the future. In the panel: Pay2, Vibeke Sørlie and Sugar Mo. Moderator: Camilla Tellefsen

    We are so excited to bring Funky Loffe back to Oslo!! DJ, music producer, and crate digger from Stockholm, Sweden, who has been rocking dance floors all over the world since the 90s. Often referred to as a music archaeologist, he is one of the pioneers of Swedish RareGroove and has a strong focus on Disco, Funk, and House from various sources.

    He is also known for being one of the most popular DJs and producers in theballroom culture under his alias Loffe Beats.

    Tash is joining us all the way from Montreal, Canada! With over 35 years in street dance and Hip Hop, she has made her mark as a dancer, choreographer, and mentor. Celebrated for her roles in Cirque Du Soleil’s The Beatles LOVE and her work with Bboyizm Dance Company, Tash is a sought-after judge and teacher, sharing her knowledge globally.     Finland’s only female breaking champion and the IBE footwork champion! A.T. has been dancing since 1995, and her work has been paving the way for more female representation within the breaking scene.

    She's one of the first female breakers to judge the world's largest tournaments- Redbull BC One, Battle of the Year, and Youth Olympic Games to name a few. A.T.'s style has influenced bboys and bgirls around the world - and her lectures and workshops stays popular around the world due to her strong understanding of breaking culture, coupled with a mastery of breaking technique and foundations. We're absolutely thrilled to have this force join us for Extended 2024!

    Sonia Bel Hadj Brahim aka SonYa is a French Popping and Waacking dancer and member of The Illest Looserz crew from Tunisia. SonYa starts Popping with Pascal Luce and learned Waacking self-taught.

    Then SonYa tooks class from OG and great dancers such as Popin Pete, Mr Wiggles, Suga Pop, Kei, Tyrone Proctor, Ana Sanchez, Archie Burnett, Ibuki Imata, Yoshie. She also trained with Frank Boogie and Tommy Steez.

    SonYa used to dance with dance companies and French directors such as James Thierrée, Charles Chaplin's grandson, Anne Nguyen and Julie Berès; where she brings Popping and Waacking to another level.

    Now more involved in the dance community SonYa recently winning Popping battle such as Urbanation Battle (Fr), All About The Funk (Ca), Pay The Cost To Be The Boss (Fr) and 2nd place at Freestyle Session (LA), Flash Light (Fr) and Funk Machine Vol 3 (Ch).

    Candy aka Bgirl Candy grew up in New York City surrounded by Hip-Hop and at 15 years old she discovered breakin and was hooked. She was taught and mentored by pioneers like Ken Swift and Rokafella and by the time Candy graduated high school she was competing internationally, as well as being invited to compete at IBE and Streetstar festival. Shortly after this she became the first NYC Bgirl to bring home an International title. She continued to compete and earn first place titles from competitions such as IBE (Holland), UK champs, Mighty 4 and Floorwars.

    20 years later she is now the International Vice President of the Mighty Zulu Kweenz, a member of the Heartbreakerz crew and in 2022 became a certified judge for the Olympic Qualifiers. At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games she became the first bgirl and Dominican woman to commentate for the Olympic Broadcast Services-as the co-commentator during Breakin’ in its Olympic debut.

    Damon Frost aka the „Rubberband Man“, a Bay area BMX pioneer born in LA, started dancing in 1981 in the streets of San Francisco. When moving to Stockholm in 1985, he became a big influence in the European waving and popping scene.

    Jens was born and raised in Oslo, and has his background from X-Ray Ungdomskulturhus where he started dancing in the late 90s. With roots in hip-hop and house, he works both in the urban field and within contemporary dance. Among others, he has worked with Panta Rei Danseteater, Elle Sofe Henriksen, Homan Sharifi/Impure Company, Camilla Tellefsen, Belinda Braza, Trust Dance Theater (South Korea), Fredrik Benke Rydman (Sweden) and Emmanuelle Lephân/Tenticle Tribe (Canada). In addition, he has appeared on NRK, TV2 and TVNORGE in various television productions as a dancer and choreographer. In 2015, he was the Dansens Dager ambassador and was awarded the Statens Kunstnerstipend for younger, newly established artists (2015-2017). In addition to being a performing dancer, he also teaches street dance at, among others, the Oslo Academy of Arts, Edvard Munch, Proda, Norges Dansehøgskole and has held workshops for Carte Blanche. He has choreographed several of his own pieces for dance education in Norway, as well as shown his own pieces at Scenehuset and the Urban Moves Festival. Jens has also been active in the battle scene, and won Soul Sessions Oslo, Pop What you got, Urban Moves in Norway and the qualification in Stockholm for Juste Debout in Paris, which is one of the world's biggest battles. He also won the hip-hop category during Hyper Week in Italy.

    Nubian Néné is a Montreal native and a New York-based dancer/choreographer who weaves Street & Club dances to create her unique captivating style. Her resilience and hard work stem from her Haitian roots, enabling her to expand into a producer, curator, visual artist, teacher and a reliable asset to any endeavor and team. Her mentors, some of the innovators of the Street & Club dance cultures, support, encourage and inspire her to identify cultural references, to be involved and engaged in the community and through pedagogy help carry the weight of Africandiasporic legacy. Nubian Néné performs with Bboyizm Dance Company's In My Body and Passion Fruit Dance Company's Trapped(2021) and Dimensions (in progress). Signature Verses Liberation(2022), an ode to architecture, dance, and drawing, is her first visual art installation and proof of harmony. She is currently working on premiering her solo in 2025, inspired by mental health and its effect on creativity. Nubian Néné is the creator, curator and artistic director of Waack Bazaar, The Essence Experience, Glasses & Laces, and A Lady in The House Dance Company.

Zeps is a true Hip Hop head originally from Brooklyn, now resided in Stockton, California. He is a dear friend of Norway through maaany years! He also represents his own brand, Rhymosaurs which is an amazing Hip Hop book series for kids.

    A young and promising multi-artist within the hip hop culture, Oslo-raised Yurley aka Yurleyley has developed her voice over the last years and is this year's MC through Saturday and Sunday with Zeps!

    You might have seen her on the series KRAFT at NRK, a docu-series depicting young dancers upbringing, triumphs and setbacks. Yurley represents B16, Subsdans crew and Deep Down Dopeizm.

    Born in Sweden with Iranian roots, Diesel had a long journey as a dancer before finding his place in the LGBTQ+ community and with it, the ballroom scene. Diesel has been nicknamed Europe's "Prince of Seduction" and represents the Norwegian ballroom scene. He co-founded the former Kiki House of Meraki. Now he travels and competes in various Ballroom categories such as Sex Siren and Old way.

What is Nordic Exchange?

Nordic Exchange 2024, is an exchange program with the goal of creating networks between nordic dancers within street and club dance. The project will facilitate experience in creative process as well as ensemble work on stage.

We invite mentors from Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland to bring 3 dancers each - to Oslo during Soul Sessions Extended Festival. The mentors are, A.T.(FI), Marie Kaae(DK), Nils Therén(SE) and Jens Trinidad(NO)

The project is funded by Nordisk Kulturfond and organized by Soul Sessions Oslo.
